About Margaret Fripp

Margaret Fripp’s long involvement in the musical life of Aylesbury spanned nearly 60 years until her death in 1992.  Born in 1910, Margaret joined the Aylesbury Choral Society in 1936 and for some years was a soprano soloist with the Society.  Later, she served as Chairman and Secretary and was also a member of the Aylesbury and District Arts Council and a supporter of the Aylesbury Festival of the Arts.  Margaret also sang with the Chiltern Singers, Charles Pope Ladies’ Choir and the Aylesbury Consort of Voices madrigal group and was a founding trustee of the Charles Pope Memorial Trust.

The Margaret Fripp Prize

The competition is open to singers aged 18 and under who have lived (or been educated) in the area formerly administered by Aylesbury Vale District Council for 2 years or more.  A full list of the civil parishes in Aylesbury Vale can be found here.  The Prize is awarded annually to the most promising singer of all those competing.  The winning candidate in 2024 will receive £100 to spend on furthering their musical education.

The closing date for applications is 14th March 2024. The auditions will be held at the Aylesbury Methodist Church on Thursday 21st March 2024 at 7.30pm.

 

The audition must be a solo performance, with an accompanist if required, or a recorded accompaniment, lasting a maximum of 7 minutes, and should include 2 contrasting songs lasting 2 to 3 minutes each. The candidates should introduce themselves and their songs before the audition.

 

A warm up space will be available before the audition.
